What I thought...

{Continue with caution if you haven't seen it yet}
So, I have read a bunch of blogs about the movie and it seems that most of you are with me on this one. I am siding with my sisters: It wasn't that great. I have found that people who haven't read the books {and the teenagers} really liked it, though. I saw the movie with some girlfriends and all of our husbands. Pete wanted to go and see it, but even he was disappointed. I had to explain a bunch of stuff to Pete. One specific thing I told Pete about was the "there were three things I was absolutely sure of..." {or how ever it goes} And I explained that she says that BEFORE she talks to Edward and finds out that it is really true. Pete thought that was a stupid line where it was in the movie and after he knew that it was out of order, he thought that it would have been a MUCH better line. Anyway, things like that just totally ruined it for me.

I felt like they spent a lot of time, in the middle of the movie, on stuff that either wasn't in the books or wasn't really that important and they could've spent more time on other, more important parts.

And sorry for all you RPatz fans out there, but he still did not do it for me as Edward. I really tried to give him a chance! The others seemed okay, although we didn't see a lot of the Cullens or hear them talk much, so hopefully we'll get to see more of that in the next movies {if they keep going after New Moon}.

Pete and I agree that the beginning and end were great, but the middle was terrible. The fight scene was great. I think Cam did an awesome job as James. On many parts, the audience was laughing at serious stuff {I think every time Jacob showed up, we all laughed at his hair, right?}. I did like some of the characters and thought they were played well. Stephenie's cameo was horrible. Poor girl.

The one thing that really chaps my hide is the meadow scene. They totally ruined my favorite part of the book. And the sparkly stuff, just too cheesy. And the special effects--low budget for sure. Fast action should look better than that. You could totally see the white face paint on their faces sometimes and I saw Edward's contact on a close-up shot of his eye. Things like that should have been cleaned up.

I loved the scene at the end where Edward kisses Bella's neck. Done well, for sure. Except that sweater was hideous with her dress.

Well, I hope with some more moola, NEW MOON will be better. Here is the official announcement of that movie. Thanks to Destiny for the link and stuff.

SUMMIT ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCES
TWILIGHT SEQUEL - NEW MOON

Los Angeles, CA November 22, 2008 — Summit Entertainment announced today that the studio is officially moving forward with the production of NEW MOON, the second installment of its filmed franchise TWILIGHT, the action-packed, modern day vampire love story. The movie will be based on the second novel in author Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series titled, New Moon. The first movie in the TWILIGHT franchise, the self-titled TWILIGHT, arrived in theaters this weekend to sold-out showings.

Stephenie Meyer stated, "I don't think any other author has had a more positive experience with the makers of her movie adaptation than I have had with Summit Entertainment. I'm thrilled to have the chance to work with them again on NEW MOON."

Jonas's head is too big and he is not fat enough

That's right! I took Jonas in for his year check-up and he's in the 25th percentile for his weight and 70th for his head. His height was at the 60th percentile. Man, I guess there are real chunky ones out there. I would not consider my kid on the skinny side, but apparently he is.

Yesterday, Jonas wanted to play peek-a-boo with his shirt. Here are some shots from our game:

I'm going to see Twilight tonight and I'm not talking to anyone about what they thought just yet. I don't want to have any pre-conceived notions floating around. So, for those of you who have already posted about it, I won't comment until tomorrow at the earliest.

Our fish tank 'incident'

Make sure you are comfortable. I hope this won't take too long, but I never know once I get started. I think this is the longest journal entry I've done yet, so I hope you don't get bored or anything. Oh, and the pictures are small, but if you click on them, you can see them better.

On Tuesday night, Pete opened up the doors to the sump tank underneath the fish tank. Time out, I guess I should explain that this fish tank stands about 6 1/2 feet tall and is SALTWATER! And the tank itself is either 80 or 90 gallons--I forget. Okay, time in. So we have to add water to
the tank below because it slowly evaporates or whatever, but Pete had been adding three gallons for the past three days and he opened it up to find that he'd need to add more AGAIN!!! Fishy, I know... So he said, "I guess maybe the algae is absorbing more water, since there is more algae." "Three gallons a day?!?" I asked. "Right...there must be a leak somewhere" replied Pete. He continues to feel the carpet at the base of the fish tank. "Yup, it's wet." "Lovely" I am thinking. I have wondered when this would happen. We've been "baby sitting" Pete's brother's fish tank for over a year now and I have just been waiting. When we got the fish tank, I told Pete--"This is your project. You take care of it." So, when he told me the carpet was wet, guess what I said? Yup, "You take care of it." So, how long exactly has this thing been leaking water? Pete guessed just a couple of days, since he's been putting more water in, but I informed him that I had been putting water in the tank during the day because it had been pushing out air instead of water. So, maybe a week or so. YUCK!!! The cause of this leaking? When Pete cleaned out the wool sock in the sump last, I guess the lid it is connected to slipped and knocked some tube, so it had just been dripping slowly, but about 3 gallons of water a day for who knows how long exactly. It was an easy fix, but the damage had been done. We HAD to move the tank.

So, as a reminder, this is Tuesday night. Maybe 10:30 or 11:00. He's got school in the morning and is cranky when he doesn't get his sleep. This would have to wait until tomorrow. And so it did. Wednesday, he comes home from work and starts taking gallons and gallons of water out of the tank. He takes out the live rock s o that the fish have nowhere to hide and starts taking out the fish too. To get the water out, he siphons it, yes, with his mouth. He did get a mouthful of yucky saltwater once! Now, this tank is huge and I'm kinda a wimp, so I told him to call some buddies to help. He did and it was before 5:00. Of course no one is off of work yet, so he keeps taking more and more water out. Finally a couple of friends show up to help out (thanks Kent and Trent). Just getting all the water, fish, and rock out has been making a mess not only on the carpet, but on my couches too (sniff, sniff). The smell of the fish tank makes me want to vomit and now our whole house was beginning to smell like it. Pete grew up on the Washington coast, so he loves the smell (and loves seafood too). Anyway, through the help of muscles, the men got the fish tank down stairs. Let me put an insert in here--I wanted the fish tank in the basement to begin with for this reason, but I have enjoyed it being upstairs where everyone can see it. The basement living room is really the only place it could fit because it is so big.

And this is what the carpet looks like after taking the fish tank down stairs. The only noticeable damage is from the stain in the wood that got wet and therefore stained our carpet. We had put some carpet cleaner stuff on and scrubbed for a while, so this is an improvement. And the carpet just smells musty. We're going to borrow a carpet cleaner from our friends.

The guys had to get going, and I was off to an enrichment activity, so Pete was left to fill up the fish tank with Jonas playing at his feet. Let's just say that is was rough. I didn't get to see it in action but here are some wound shots from the day. The one of Jonas's finger is when he was playing with the doors to the sump tank and it scraped the skin. Pete's armpit and arms are from 'slipping' when he was filling the fish tank. There are so many marks on his arms, I don't know if he slipped more than once or not. That acrylic can be vicious. The ones of Pete's foot and leg happened earlier in the day. The one of his leg happened at school and it much more purple now then when I took the picture. You can see how his leg is swollen on the outside.



And me? I am good. The only injury I had was that I think I pulled a muscle in my calf when I ran down the street to borrow a cookie press because mine wasn't working and I was already going to be late for enrichment. Now, I can't take a picture of that! Plus, it is fine now.

What Character would others say you are? I don't know, maybe Alice. I love to go to/hold parties and love to hang out with lots of people. And I love to play dress-up and hair! Phoenix or Forks? I have lived in Vegas and have family in the Phoenix area. I have also lived in NW Washington and after living in both conditions I would say HANDS DOWN--Forks. I hate to be too hot. You can only take off so much, ya know, but you can layer and layer until you weigh 20 more pounds than you normally do. It's great. And my favorite color is green. Don't see much of that in Phoenix.

If you were Bella and you can't have Edward what other male from the book would you pick and why? Mike Newton if I was going to be human. Good friend kind of guy.

Would you rather be a Vampire or Werewolf? Vampire. Who wouldn't want to be gorgeous and super strong/fast/whatever else you can do when they die???

I used to have more quirks, but lots have faded away (so sad, I know) :0{ Well, here are some I could think of.

1. When I want my hair cut or colored, I want it NOW. And then I am so frustrated that my hair person can't fit me into their schedule, so I have been known to color and/or cut it myself.

2. I don't like going shopping by myself. Not even to the grocery store.

3. I have to have something sweet after lunch and dinner (and sometimes even breakfast). Dessert is the way to go people!!!

4. I am a total sucker for SALES. Yeah, buy one, get one half off baits me in every time. Whenever we go to target, Pete has to hold on to me so that I don't stop and shop in the dollar section.

5. I am the queen of getting distracted.

6. I love organizing things (you wouldn't think it to look at my house).

7. I won't go into too many details here, because it's something that you have to hear. Well, it's the way I say the number 5 when it is rolled with dice in a game. Pete always gives me the look and I don't even realize I've done it. Anyway, it started a laughing fit (complete with tears) when I was playing a game with some friends this last weekend.

MERMAN:

I was trying to put these pants on Jonas and could not figure out why they would not come up any further. Little did I realize that Jonas had slipped his right foot into the left pant leg. He was pretty mad, but I just HAD to take a picture (you understand, right???) And if you look closely, on his right foot, you can see how his toe next to the big toe sits on top. It does this a lot. I guess there just isn't enough room for them all to be on the same plane.


We were clearing the grass out of the garden and covering the strawberries for the winter. Jonas crawled in and wanted to help.





And finally, HALLOWEEN. I would consider this his 'first' because last year, we had just brought him home from the hospital being 1 day old. We went around the neighborhood just to a few houses. Some of them picked up on my scheme to use Jonas as a decoy for my wanting the candy :0) Okay, we let him eat some of it. He did NOT like the Smarties, but LOVED the Nerds.

Arr!!! Don't he look like one of them there pirates with his teeth missing and all messy lookin'???

LOOK WHO'S ONE!!!!

The Cake {didn't turn out quite how I imagined, but it was gobbled up, none the less and the frosting is hopefully enough Chartreuse for Dad! ;0) }

Jonas played with the cupcake for a bit and then got mad because all of the kids were not trapped in a high chair like him :0) so he didn't eat much of it.



Opening up the gifts {notice all the kids around. They all wanted to play with his toys first, of course. And they were all there to help take off the wrapping paper too.}


And, the most popular toy of the evening {maybe because it was the last one} from Grandma Gunther. Thanks Grandma!!!




This was too funny to pass. Hyrum was on the ladder to the fish tank and Jonas came up from behind and tried to push himself up higher, but Hyrum was obviously in the way.


Dancing at the end of the day. He was going more crazy than this, but I only caught the tail end of it. I guess it was all that sugar in the frosting.

At 1, Jonas:
Says: mama, dada, boo, a-koo (peek-a-boo), and many other non-translated words.
Took his first step last wednesday, just a single step.
Has been doing the Mowgli walk all day today.
Has four teeth on top and two on the bottom.
Claps his hands and dances to music (obviously, if you watched the video)
Is so quick. Whenever he sees a door open that he's not supposed to enter (i.e. the pantry, mom's craft room, etc.) he makes a bee-line for it.
Still eats paper and anything else that can be eaten.
Loves to throw things and put things in buckets or other containers.
Loves the camera (if you haven't noticed).
Hates wearing socks and usually pulls them off and throws them. That's why I try to put shoes on as often as possible.
Loves anything that has a face. He'll laugh so hard at his stuffed animals and animal puppets on TV.
Likes to try to poke mom's eye and get his fingers eaten by dad.
Loves to hit things that make cool sounds.
Tries to push the power button on the computer almost daily.
Loves playing the piano and singing.
Is such a funny kid. He has the cutest laugh and is super ticklish.

We love him so much and couldn't ask for a better kid. We are excited for another year!!!
